Four Score and Seven Years Ago
From the company that produced Harry the Dirty Dog and Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler comes another family musical, about life in Gettysburg during the Civil War and the relationship between two teens: Lemuel, a runaway slave, and Jacob, a Confederate soldier. They meet in the dry-goods store owned by a Quaker widow, where Lemuel works. Despite their antagonism and opposing world views, an unlikely friendship develops. As war rages around them, risks are taken, and bravery and kindness overcome suspicion. This is suspenseful, inspiring drama, with an original score by Broadway lyricist John Forster. Appropriate for grades 3 – 8.
